Dakar, June 23 (APS) – Extreme and excess rains, which could cause flooding, are expected during this winter, between late July and early August 2024, indicated the director of meteorological operations at the National Weather Agency. civil aviation and meteorology, Dr Ousmane Ndiaye.

”It is during this period from the end of July to August of the winter season that we expect the most extreme and excess rains,” Mr. Ndiaye told APS.

”We maintain our forecasts for this year, we expect excess rains which could lead to flooding,” he reiterated.

Dr Ousmane Diagne also invited the authorities, populations and services to integrate weather forecasts into their daily planning.

”We must make the effort to integrate weather forecasts into our planning. We must, in our daily activities, adapt to climate change,” he said.

He indicated that ANACIM is currently developing ”a climate early warning system” intended to provide meteorological information to the entire population, to the entire decentralized administration.

The objective, he explained, is to ensure that people can take ownership of the weather forecasts.

Beyond this early warning system, ANACIM is in the process of readjusting its strategic plan to better satisfy populations, based on the climate information they need.

”We carried out a first validation of this strategic plan with the support of USAID, and I think that this plan will be available before the end of August 2024,” he said, assuring that this plan is in the circuit, for internal validation of supervision.
