It’s “refreshing” in the medieval city of Carcassonne after a new cut in the city gas supply

Since this Sunday, June 23 at midday, the town gas supply has been restored by GrDF agents, after an interruption since the day before in the middle of the afternoon. This is the second time since Tuesday June 18 that restaurateurs and residents of the City have been faced with such a situation.

While the tourist season is barely beginning in the heart of the ramparts of the medieval city of Carcassonne, its restaurateurs and the thirty or so residents who live there are faced with a gas supply problem that is undermining them. And that’s saying something. In the memory of city dwellers, this is the first time that they have experienced such a dysfunction within this monument, although it is a UNESCO world heritage site. During the afternoon of Saturday June 22, everyone was once again deprived of town gas. At 3:56 p.m., some customers received an SMS on their phone: “An incident is in progress in this sector. A GrDF team has been mobilized and the natural gas supply has been suspended. Scheduled start time for gas refilling, June 22 in the evening.” At 8:07 p.m. that same day, a new message then informed them that “Our technicians are carrying out the necessary repairs to restore the natural gas supply. Expected time of restoration on June 23 at 8 a.m..” Jérémy Thomann, owner of Table d’Alaïs on rue du Plô, told us: “Luckily I bought an induction hob a month ago, in case there was a problem. But this, really, it’s a big hassle…”

At La Table D’Alaïs, chef Jérémy Thomann was able to adapt to the situation, despite everything.

It’s already very complicated, we hope it won’t start again.

This Sunday, June 23, the same Jérémy Thomann explained to us that he was able to adapt to the situation by having to limit the number of customers, to ensure quality service: “We made around twenty covers, whereas we usually do double that. It’s very stressful…” Four days earlier (Tuesday June 18), during the same incident, La Table d’Alaïs had to close its doors, “despite the reservations we had.” Rue de la Porte d’Aude, the restaurant Le Bellevue was also forced to close its doors to visitors, “because we were unable to serve our customers”. In general, as Ali, the manager of the place, explains to us, “we are counting on sixty seats in the evening”. This Sunday, June 23 in the morning as noon approached, it was not even sure if it would be able to open.

Place Saint-Jean, the eponymous establishment explains that it was able to adapt the evening before: “It’s already very complicated, we hope it won’t start again”. On Place Marcou, Kishan du Ménestrel also hopes that this will not be repeated: “On Saturday, it went out twice around 4 p.m. After the evening, we struggled. We also had to tell people that we had to cancel certain reservations… For the rest, we used an electric oven… “

It was necessary to bring in a specialized team from Montpellier for the necessary adjustments.

GrDF territorial director of Aude and Pyrénées-Orientales, Claude Bompart discusses “the repetition of a cutoff after a technical incident. There was an overpressure problem on one station, and this automatically triggered the cutoff of the second… Restoring the gas supply then took longer than expected It was necessary to bring in a specialized team from Montpellier for the necessary adjustments on Saturday at 11 p.m., some customers were able to be restored, such as the Hôtel de la Cité or others. food…”

Everything was done gradually, until the gas supply to 90% of customers was restored this Sunday at 11:30 a.m. Before a total restoration at noon. As for Tuesday June 18, sixty-nine GrDF customers were impacted by this new incident.
