This eighth structure on the river, under construction since 2017, will be open in advance to pedestrians and cyclists and will host a large free party on July 6, before the start of car traffic on July 8.

Le Figaro Bordeaux

“We don’t inaugurate a bridge every day!” To celebrate the commissioning of the Simone-Veil bridge, a huge crossing which will connect Bordeaux, Bègles and Floirac by crossing the Garonne, the metropolis of Bordeaux has planned a major inauguration party on July 6 from 6 p.m. to midnight, in order to celebrate the advent of this metropolitan work long awaited by the people of Bordeaux.

549 meters long and 44 meters wide, the Simone-Veil bridge will look like a giant compared to the stone bridge, 19 meters wide, already linking the city center of Bordeaux to the right bank. An imposing size which will allow this new bridge to accommodate 2×2 lanes for motorists, two lanes for public transport, a two-way cycle path of four meters and a large pedestrian lane approximately 15 meters wide.

Giant inflatable games and Ferris wheel

On July 3 at 9 a.m., the bridge will finally be open, but only to pedestrians and cyclists. On July 6, “it will be a party at the foot of the bridge”announces the metropolis, with free entertainment on the right bank, near the Arkéa Arena, and “a musical program that will put women in the spotlight”. Three DJ sets will take turns throughout the evening, with several dance sessions and a nighttime aerial circus show, which “will tell a humanist story around the knowledge of the stars”echoing the giant work of art installed at the foot of the bridge to “walk in the stars».

Before the lighting of the bridge (at 11:30 p.m.), several activities will be planned continuously: giant inflatable games, for young and old, a Ferris wheel (on the left bank), temporary tattoo workshops, food trucks and refreshments. Two days after the festival, Monday July 8, the bridge will finally be open to motorists, from 5 a.m., marking the entry into service of this eighth bridge over the Garonne (and sixth open to pedestrians), which should greatly improve the connection between the two banks.
