The withdrawal of a number of inactive companies from the tax system is not a bankruptcy, but an option proposed by the tax reforms undertaken by the government, indicated, Wednesday in Rabat, the Minister Delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament, Government Spokesman, Mustapha Baitas.

Parliament, alongside the government, contributed to the amendments to the finance law, which require these inactive companies to decide their fate, either by remaining or leaving the tax system according to a number of conditions, said Mr. Baitas in response to a question on the withdrawal of inactive companies from the tax system during a press briefing following the Council.

These conditions include the regularization of the tax situation of these inactive companies according to terms relating to the temporary suspension of ex officio taxation, with the establishment of a special procedure guaranteeing the rights of these companies, he explained, specifying that this regime targets companies that have not fulfilled their tax obligations during the last three financial years and have not carried out any operation or exercised any activity during this period.

He added that this regime also includes measures to regularize the tax situation of companies that have not made any turnover or have paid only the minimum contribution. These measures have thus allowed inactive companies to exit the tax system in order to focus on active companies and support them, he noted.

Mr. Baitas also stressed that implementing a deep reform of the tax system is a priority of the government, along with reforms of corporate tax, value-added tax and income tax, noting that these have significantly increased tax revenues.
