A former bank employee has been on trial since June 17 in Périgueux for having embezzled at least 300,000 euros in four years.

Scams, breach of trust, use of forgery… There were numerous charges on Monday June 17 at the Périgueux court, against a 48-year-old former bank employee, accused of multiple embezzlements. This resident of Nontron (Dordogne) is accused of nine crimes committed between 2014 and 2018 for damage estimated at 312,000 euros, reports Sud Ouest.

The accused admitted all the facts. She even mentions a larger sum, around 500,000 euros, to be repaid, including the 130,000 euros in loans taken out.

Employee of the Banque Populaire de Nontron, the forty-year-old first managed to withdraw 200,000 euros from the accounts of several clients. But the accused did not stop there since she took out loans by presenting false documents. The Banque Populaire ended up realizing the problem and fired her in May 2016. But the ex-banker managed to find a position at Allianz where this time she managed to embezzle nearly 100,000 euros in ten months.

“I had too much empathy”

“I cannot explain the actions that I may have committed,” declared the defendant, also accused of breach of trust with her mother and use of forgery at the time when she was employed in a hospital in Périgueux. The forty-year-old explained that she made transfers from one client’s account to another overdrawn, or sometimes to help obtain a loan. “As soon as I saw someone in need, I couldn’t stand it. I had too much empathy. I fell into a trap, I was doing it for the customers, I was doing it for myself,” she said. -she defended.

Questioned about her lifestyle, considered beyond her means, the accused in the middle of divorce proceedings mentioned problems with her ex-spouse and burnout at work.

Around thirty victims are involved in this case. The ex-banker faces a sentence of 30 months in prison. The prosecutor also requested compensation for damages, an obligation of care as well as confiscation of the house. The verdict is due in September.
