And in practice?

A fervent user of the Dyson Airstrait, the author of these lines was eager to use the GHD Duet Style, which has a mechanism that is somewhat different from that of its competitor. And for good reason, we had to straighten our wet hair. The concept is unconventional, even confusing, but GHD’s expertise in straightening — which we have been able to test for many years — inspires confidence.

To protect ourselves from improper use and the risk of damaging our hair during straightening, we must scrupulously follow the recommendations which call for wringing out the hair well with a towel before dividing it into three large sections.

So we set about drying section by section, naturally starting with the bottom. It is advisable to start from the roots, hold for 3 seconds before slowly going down the entire length. Three passes per strand is enough, at least in theory. We do not have thick hair and our mane is not as dense as Beyonce’s.

However, despite this natural mishap that could have made things easier for the GHD Duet Style, the reality is quite different. The drying process takes much longer than expected (and our patience is limited). We get exhausted, annoyed and fume over this strand of hair that is not very thick and remains damp despite numerous passes. On the verge of stopping the massacre, we think of our readers for this feedback and continue our activity willingly or unwillingly.

After 20 minutes of use, the hair is partially smoothed, although still a little damp and seriously lacking in shine and suppleness. The “labour mat” effect is even felt. GHD assures us: “No heat damage detected after 100 cycles of four passes with drying mode vs naturally dried hair.”

Today, the Dyson Airstrait is more suited to our daily and hectic routine. The GHD Duet would probably be more suitable for those who do not have hair that is too long or too thick, and who have time on their hands. However, it is more practical to take on a trip, being lighter than the Dyson Airstrait whose very bulky power plug is oh so restrictive.
