A 47-year-old man was indicted for murder and placed in pre-trial detention this Saturday, June 22. He is suspected of having attacked a 28-year-old man on the evening of Thursday June 20 in Périgueux.

The reasons which led to this tragedy are currently unknown. On the evening of Thursday June 20, in Périgueux, a 28-year-old young man presented himself to the police station with a large wound in his chest. The latter appears to have been caused by a bladed weapon such as a knife. As specified by the public prosecutor, Jacques-Edouard Andrault, the victim provided information to police officers before losing consciousness. He will specify in particular the identity of the person who stabbed him several times.

An alcoholic man arrested in the process

While the young man is taken care of by police officers who provide him with first aid, a patrol goes to the home of the alleged attacker, a 47-year-old man, living on rue Antoine Gadaud in Périgueux. They discovered a man, in the courtyard of his building, drunk and matching the description of the victim. The latter was arrested at 10:50 p.m. for attempted murder. In the meantime, the young man, taken into the care of the SAMU, died. The forty-year-old is now being prosecuted for murder.

As the Périgueux public prosecutor’s office indicates, at the time of his arrest, the alleged attacker had three knives, a screwdriver and three crack pipes with him. The day after his arrest, his partner was also placed in police custody, suspected of having concealed the murder weapon. She will end up indicating the place, in the couple’s apartment, where the “knife likely to have committed the acts” is located.

Already convicted of drug trafficking

While in police custody, the forty-year-old told investigators that he did not remember certain moments of the evening, because of his alcoholism. He also chooses to remain silent to certain questions. For the moment, investigators still do not know the reasons which led him to stab the victim. This Saturday, June 22, “the man was indicted for murder and placed in pre-trial detention.” The individual already has a criminal record. He was sentenced on January 30 to twelve months’ imprisonment, six of which were suspended for two years, for drug trafficking.
