“Here 100 people work to serve the most deprived. No to any form of violence! » The message couldn't be clearer. The large portrait of Abbé Pierre, founder of Emmaüs, located on one of the walls of the sales area, avenue de Mayenne in Laval, is now hidden by a banner. “We put this in place this morning (Thursday November 14, 2024, Editor’s note) », explains Romain Chaupitre, director of Emmaüs in Mayenne.
The portrait soon removed from Villiers-Charlemagne
Gradually, as it was in the community board of directors, all representations of Abbé Pierre, accused of sexual assault, will be removed in Mayenne but also in Châteaubriant (Loire-Atlantique). “The portrait of Abbé Pierre located at the entrance to the Emmaüs store in Villiers-Charlemagne will notably be removed,” explains Romain Chaupitre.
Last September, Jacques Beauvallet, president of Emmaüs in Mayenne and Châteaubriant, specified in the columns of West France that he “We had to be careful not to confuse the unacceptable and unforgivable actions of Abbé Pierre with the foundation he created.”
