The Ambassador, permanent representative of the Kingdom of Morocco in Vienna, Azzeddine Farhane co-chaired, in his capacity as former president of the G77- Vienna Chapter (2022), this ceremony with Laura Gil, Ambassador, permanent representative of Colombia in Vienna and president of the G77 for the year 2024.

This ceremony, organized at the headquarters of the United Nations Office in Vienna, was enhanced by the presence of directors general and representatives of international organizations based in Vienna (UNODC, CTBTO, IAEA, UNIDO and UNICITRAL ), ambassadors, permanent representatives of G77 member countries and China, in addition to several diplomats and international officials.

The interactive discussion between the co-presidents and the directors general of the international organizations based in Vienna which marked this commemoration, was the opportunity for Mr. Farhane to emphasize in particular that the diversity and richness of the geographical representation within the G77 constitute assets for the Group, in terms of complementarity, synergy and strength of proposal during multilateral negotiations.

He also highlighted the substantial contribution of the G77-Vienna Chapter, which has always been able to preserve consensus and contribute significantly and positively to intergovernmental processes, within the framework of international organizations based in Vienna.

The diplomat also noted that solidarity and the collaborative approach constitute the driving force that has always governed the meetings and actions of the G77-Vienna Chapter, thus making it possible to advance multilateral diplomacy in Vienna and address common challenges, notably in a context of tension and geopolitical divisions.

For their part, the representatives of the international organizations based in Vienna magnified the collective action and the contribution of the G77 to the agenda of these organizations, while welcoming the unity, the solidarity as well as the remarkable capacity of the members of the Group to bring together points of view and build consensus, despite the obvious difficulties in any multilateral process where national positions tend to take precedence over collective positions.

Furthermore, and on the sidelines of this celebration, the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Morocco, like around ten Permanent Missions of the G77 member countries, offered the guests present dishes of Moroccan cuisine illustrating the richness and the diversity of the refined culinary art of Morocco.

It should be recalled that in January 2022, Morocco took over the presidency of the Vienna Chapter of the G77 for the first time, an appointment which reflects the trust and credibility enjoyed by the Kingdom within international organizations.
