In Marseille, residents of the Trois Lucs shooting range take legal action to demand its immediate suspension

The Committee for the Defense of Residents of the Trois Lucs Shooting Range is moving into high gear. Several legal actions are being carried out jointly against the Provence shooting league, the Marseille town hall, the Bouches-du-Rhône prefecture and the police headquarters. Reason: their lack of action to stop the nuisance of the ti standr of the Three Lukes (12th).

Several complaints filed for ammunition found in gardens

This Monday, it is the Provence Shooting League which is in the sights of justice. The Marseille judicial court studies the summary filed by the collective at 2 p.m. to immediately cease its activity. The president of the collective, Jocelyne Bufi, highlights a “serious security risk”. “We found 9 bullets emanating from the shooting range in neighboring homes. One of them broke a tile in a summer kitchen, another made a hole in a neighbor’s facade. Residents are holed up in their homes. A father no longer lets his children go out. Others only go out to the back of their house for fear of being hit by a bullet, it’s very serious ” denounces Jocelyne Bufi.

Bullet debris “spouts” outside the surrounding walls

On this point the Marseille town hall, through the voice of the sports assistant, Sébastien Jibrayel, explains that an independent expert “was mandated by the Bouches-du-Rhône Police Prefecture. His multi-page report explains thatwe cannot formally attribute the bullets found in the gardens of local residents to the weapons used in the shooting range“. France Bleu Provence was able to note, however, that bullet residue could well be projected outside the walls. One of them, burning, brushed past our journalist during his report on the spot, before ending up in the gravel (our photo).

Real “noise attacks” according to a report

A risk for personal safety to which must be added the noise pollution from the stand. “It’s almost non-stop, all day and weekend. We had sonometric assessments carried out, they show excesses not in compliance with the public health code and which are qualified as noise attacks. It’s like a jackhammer going on and off all day long, it’s harassment” continues the president of the defense committee.

Bac exams disrupted in the neighboring high school?

Noise pollution felt throughout the neighborhood, and in particular in the Monte Cristo Regional High School located a stone’s throw away, in the town of Allauch. “It often happens that the teacher is bothered by the shots. It makes big “Boom” and it lasts a long time” says Thomas, a second year student. At a time when the first heat in the classrooms encourages people to open the windows to get some air, the detonations are felt all the more strongly. “I don’t see myself working on my copy with these shots which are sometimes very noisy. It takes us out of our bubble, it can hinder us for the tests” says Tom, a first year high school student who is taking the French exams this week.

This is why the mayor of Allauch, Lionel de Cala, is requesting suspension of shooting range activity during baccalaureate exams. It also requires soundproofing and security work: “This work must be done very quickly and the shooting range covered. We cannot wait for more years before finding a solution so that local residents can regain their peace and quiet in complete safety.“.

Covering the shooting range is 1 million euros (Sébastien Jibrayel, sports assistant)

For his part, Sébastien Jibrayel says he is aware of the problem and rejects any inaction on the part of the town hall: “We inherited this shooting range which is in operation since 1976. Since 2023 we have been contacted by the local residents’ defense committee, which we received and listened to. But the cover for the stand is at least 1 million euros. We are ready to work with other communities to find funding. We are concerned about the well-being and safety of local residents, we will comply with the decision that justice may take.
