Thirty Italian high school students from Veneto (Veneto with the accent) are perfecting their French at the Perpignan language school, Alfmed. An Erasmus + program punctuated this June 28 by a practical exercise: illustrating the attractiveness and richness of the region, and its common points with Veneto, in 3 minutes flat, and in French.
They are between 16 and 17 years old and are already multilingual, switching with ease from their native Italian to English, Spanish and French. This Friday, June 28, the challenge imagined during their stay was presented at the Maison de la Région Occitanie, in Perpignan. Three minutes flat to highlight the region’s assets, and even points in common with the Venice region.

And the inhabitants of Occitanie can feel flattered to see their Canal du Midi compared to the Grand Canal of Venice or the Place de la Comédie rivaling the Place Saint-Marc. At least in the minds of these students visibly under the spell of the south of France.
The exercise was intended to highlight “the diversity of the regional territory, perhaps the common points with a region as dynamic and industrious as Venetoexplains the founder and director of Alfmed, Florence Delseny-Sobra. I think this is a superb opportunity for us to demonstrate the attractiveness of our territory in the Pyrénées-Orientales and beyond the Occitanie region.”.

And after the mention of regional gastronomy and its Unesco sites, the city of Carcassonne or the fortified city of Villefranche-de-Conflent, the Canal du Midi or the medical school of Montpellier, it is the colors of Occitanie which have won the challenge. Red, yellow, purple, white, blue… all that was missing was the green of the Venetian coat of arms to come close to interregional twinning.
