Preservation of agricultural land: the Metropolis develops its PENAP areas

The community intends to pursue its ambition and develop these areas on its territory.

The Metropolis goes beyond the objectives it had set for itself in terms of preservation and development of protected agricultural zones within the PENAP perimeter (protection of peri-urban natural and agricultural areas). It is committed, alongside the partner municipalities concerned, to the potential increase of more than 3,000 additional hectares, thus representing an increase of more than a third in protected agricultural and natural areas since the start of the mandate.

“From the start of the mandate, the Métropole de Lyon has made the protection of its agricultural land one of its priorities with the aim of supporting farmers in the pursuit and development of their activities. With currently nearly 10,000 hectares of protected land in the 'PENAP' perimeter on its territory, we now wish to increase this agricultural and natural capital thanks to the potential extension of this perimeter over an additional 3,000 hectares thanks to the partnership work undertaken with several municipalities for this project. »

Bruno Bernard, president of the Métropole de Lyon

To enable the extension of these PENAP perimeters, work to identify agricultural and natural areas currently not covered and relevant was carried out by the services of the Métropole de Lyon and the municipalities.
