The floods caused damage in multiple municipalities in Nièvre, notably in Balleray (Vaux d’Amognes).

The surrounding wall of a property located at the crossroads of the D 26 and the D 104 held back water coming down from the countryside between Nyon and Balleray, before giving way under the pressure, around 11:30 p.m., Wednesday 19 June. The water then poured in a torrent onto the D 26 road, flooding the roads, the grounds, the surrounding basements, the property’s house, devastating the sidewalks, and even a concrete planter on a sidewalk, completely swept away by the waves, but also the school located just opposite.

When school teacher Priscilla Mercier arrived in the morning, she found the classroom covered in 5 cm of water and mud. The school was closed. Helped by municipal staff, she removed the furniture and equipment from under the courtyard, before undertaking a tedious cleaning. The fair, which was to be held at the school on Saturday June 22, will take place in Saint-Martin-d’Huille. Lots planned for this occasion were damaged.

Five centimeters of water and mud covered the floor of the classroom at Balleray school on Thursday June 20 morning. School teacher Priscilla Mercier and staff mopped the floor several times after removing the furniture and furnishings from under the playground.
