This is similar to a real raid which took place along the RN 12 in the municipality of Saint-Denis-sur-Sarthon10 km west of Alençonin Orne, tonight from Tuesday 12 to Wednesday 13 November 2024.
Ripped hatches, emptied ducts
Of the copper cables have been cut from trapdoors et pulled to significant lengths before being stolen.
Result: ripped hatches, traces of braking and ducts emptied of copper are visible here and there in the Dyonisian commune, at the level of the town hall, the earthenware factory, the side alley of the chestnut trees (the parking lot with the pizza distributor) or on the road to La Ferrière-Bochard.
A flight around midnight
Consequence: many homes, businesses, services and infrastructures in the municipality are deprived of telephone this Wednesday morning, including the town hall, the health center or the France Services house.
Contacted, the Orange operator confirmed “the theft of copper cable” and even placed it “around midnight, the time at which the boxes malfunctioned”, reports the Orange Normandie communications manager.
Orange compensates with data
More than 300 subscribersall operators combined, would therefore have been deprived of telephone service since last night. ” It's necessary that subscribers declare themselves out of order with their operators,” she explains. “For Orange subscribers, their mobiles will be increased in data to compensate,” she announces.
Orange, in charge of telephone infrastructure in this sector, has yet to see the extent of the damage. Repair and return to normal could therefore take time.
€8 per kg of copper
There is no need for astonishment at this news item on the Orange side.
Thefts of copper cables have been increasing recently, particularly due to the increase in prices. At the moment, its value reaches €8 per kg, which represents a real windfall.
The Orne gendarmerie also confirms this damage and opens an investigation.
