Dramatic twist in Saint-Hubert: a second majority pact will be put to the vote

The suspense is therefore likely to be at its height during this crucial evening.

The majority pacts will be submitted to the vote of the new municipal councilors, out loud, in a public session.

Logically, the tripartite which has a majority of elected officials on the council should therefore pass, and Didier Neuvens become mayor.

But this majority is very short, it only has one seat more than CAP (9 against 8). It only takes one vote to tip the scales to the other side. It could be that an elected official from the Dynamic, Borq and Villages or Agissons Ensemble lists decides to join Pierre Henneaux’s CAP group. And the mayor in place would keep his position for the next six years. To convince this advisor, could the CAP group offer him a position as alderman or president of CPAS? Impossible, the code of local democracy does not allow it, as Lux reminds us.

It could also be that an elected representative from the tripartite is absent or abstains. There would then be no majority for one or the other of the majority pacts, which would therefore have to be put to the vote again at a future municipal council.

Pierre Henneaux: “we’re giving it a try”

Contacted by us, the outgoing mayor Pierre Henneaux was not very talkative on the subject. “A poker move? No, not necessarilyhe says. This scenario is included in the code of local democracy and decentralization and we are therefore giving it a try. As long as there is life, there is hope.” Would the mayor have heard that a member of the tripartite would disagree with this alliance? “I don’t know but I wonder, he specifies. Concerning December 2, I still have to find out about the order of passing the points. Should we pass our pact first or that of the tripartite? Honestly, I don’t know what’s more beneficial or not.”

Neuvens: “for me, it’s a dead end”

Didier Neuvens hardly seems worried about the situation. “I remain totally confident for the future of events, he says. CAP is trying everything but it is time for the group to accept the election results. Let’s not forget that 60% of the population followed us. Making this poker move is disrespectful to all these people. So I don’t understand. Am I worried that a member of the tripartite will side with CAP? Not at all, I trust everyone. Moreover, such an event allows us to mend the ranks between us. For me, it’s a blow in the ocean that doesn’t even affect me.”

Clearly, the municipal elections of Saint-Hubert have not yet finished making headlines.
