The complete program for Canada Day in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu was revealed on Thursday, June 6 during a virtual press conference. Joseph Khoury, president of the Celebrate Canada committee, was proud to announce that the headliner will be the popular Quebec singer-songwriter Jonathan Roy, who is currently performing on European stages.

The singer behind the hits Keeping Me Alive, Lost, Daniella Danmark And Back To The Moon will perform on the stage of Place du quai in Vieux-Saint-Jean on Monday 1er July at 8:30 p.m. The show should end around 10 p.m., just in time for the traditional fireworks display.

“We tried to schedule Jonathan Roy last year, but it didn’t work out. We are therefore very happy this year that he can be with us and that we can present to the population a local artist who is now making an international career,” comments Joseph Khoury.

Unlike previous editions, the festivities surrounding Canada Day will take place over a single day. The traditional children’s park, which included several inflatable games, will not be on site this year. Remember that the City of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu did not offer a subsidy to the Celebrate Canada committee. However, it covers the costs for the fireworks as well as on-site logistics.

Activities

The first activity of the event will highlight Saint-Jean’s military garrison city status with a musical performance from the Canadian Armed Forces Leadership and Recruit School. This concert will begin at 5:30 p.m. and continue until 6:15 p.m.

The military parade will follow at 6:20 p.m. to the sound of the song O Canada. Subsequently, a moment will be devoted to the commemoration of the 80e anniversary of the Normandy landings. It was very important for Mr. Khoury to highlight this event.

Around 6:30 p.m., the military troops will leave the stage to make way for a protocol ceremony whose theme will be Honor to Citizens. The traditional celebration cake will be cut and distributed to spectators starting at 7:15 p.m., during the performance of the group Antidote.
