The Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) organized the second edition of the “International Campus of Excellence Africa” on its Benguerir campus. This edition, under the theme “Empowering Advanced Glocal Thinkers”, focuses on transformational leadership at the intersection between academia and industry in a glocal framework.
The initiative is an extension of the “International Campus of Excellence” initiative, supported since 2005 by a group of 50 Nobel Prize winners, 12 former heads of state and government, 9 astronauts, 6 Michelin-starred chefs and 1,200 industrialists, coming from 52 countries on all continents.
This year, the edition organized by the UM6P welcomed the participation of one of the world’s greatest visionaries, Professor Richard J. Roberts, winner of the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1993. During his speech entitled “Training a new generation advanced thinkers”, he shared with the audience the secrets of the “path to the Nobel Prize”.
The UM6P students and researchers present had the opportunity to discover his career, his scientific achievements and his thoughts on excellence in innovation. “There is no miracle recipe for winning a Nobel Prize. You just have to be curious, follow your passion and don’t fear failure. In the end, beautiful things will always end up happening,” said Richard Roberts, Nobel Prize winner in medicine, about his journey.
The initiative aims to bring together generations of eminent personalities and young leaders to exchange and debate in a “caring space”, conducive to the emergence of relevant and transformative ideas. Several renowned institutions from around the world, including the Royal European Academy of Doctors and the Charlemagne Prize Academy, took part in this edition.
“At UM6P, our ambition is to open the world to our students so that they can, in turn, help transform it. Our university aims to be a center of excellence for scientific exploration and innovation, a place where future Nobel Prize winners are trained. We want our students to realize that greatness is not a distant dream, but a concrete and attainable goal,” said Khalid Baddou, Co-Chair of the International Campus of Excellence Africa.
