Gard: a farmer takes justice into his own hands

This Saturday, November 9, around 8 p.m., a farmer from the village of Montfaucon was the victim of a burglary.

A man, aged around fifty and well known to the police, entered the farmer's home with the aim of stealing his property.

The farmer shoots his attacker

The victim, who was having a quiet dinner with his wife, quickly realizes that a burglary is in progress on his property.
Without delay, and after fruitless negotiations, the owner grabbed his rifle and fired at the thief, whom he described as “hooded and armed”according to information from the gendarmes.

Seriously injured in the arm, the man had to be quickly transported to the emergency room by the emergency services

Self-defense seems likely to be accepted

The farmer was immediately taken into custody to be questioned about his actions.
In a recent press release from the Nîmes public prosecutor, it is indicated that the owner was released this Monday, November 11.

The thief, still hospitalized, could not be interviewed due to his still fragile state of health.
The investigations are continuing, and according to the first elements, the reason of self-defense should be retained in favor of the farmer.

The investigation should continue in the coming days and help clarify the final details of the case.
