The Lot-et-Garonne department was placed on orange alert by Météo-France this Tuesday, June 18, due to violent storms expected late in the afternoon and evening. Indeed, according to weather forecasts, storm clouds are mainly focused on the regions from Normandy to Center-Val-de-Loire at the start of the day. Then, they will gradually move towards the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. This phenomenon will then require increased caution in the departments of Charente, Dordogne, Gironde, Landes and finally Lot-et-Garonne.

Thunderstorms expected in the department

Météo France indicates that a storm system will form late in the afternoon over the Bay of Biscay and will progress quickly towards the west of New Aquitaine. In the evening, these storms should move towards the north of the region, settling in Lot-et-Garonne, before continuing towards the north of the Massif Central and Center-Val-de-Loire during the night.

In Lot-et-Garonne, storms may be accompanied by the following phenomena:

  • Hail : risk of falling hailstones with a diameter greater than 2 centimeters.
  • Heavy rain : precipitation could reach between 30 and 50 millimeters in a short time.
  • Wind gusts : winds that can blow at 90-100 km/h.

The intensity and exact trajectory of the storm system still remain uncertain, with a possibility of extension of orange vigilance to other departments. It is crucial that the inhabitants of Lot-et-Garonne remain informed of the evolution of the situation throughout the day.

Increased vigilance in Lot-et-Garonne

Faced with these potentially dangerous conditions, Météo France emphasizes the various precautions to protect yourself:

  • Stay safe : Limit non-essential travel and stay indoors as much as possible.
  • Secure the exteriors : tuck in or securely tie down any object that could be blown away by the wind.
  • Electrical precautions : Unplug electrical appliances to avoid voltage surges and the risk of electrocution.
  • Track information : Also stay tuned to weather reports and follow the instructions of local authorities.
