The Somme Department brings sport into the lives of residents

Sport is a public health issue, but also and with culture, the most beautiful way to bring the region to life. The Departmental Council does everything it can to offer everyone the opportunity to practice a sport, and is particularly aimed at young people with the aim of developing their interest. Let us highlight three specific initiatives punctuating this Olympic year, as part of the deployment of the Somme 24 strategy.

Sports villages to punctuate the approach to the Olympic Games

THE “Sports Villages” of the Department return in this Olympic year, in eight municipalities throughout the Somme:

With free access, many free physical activities are offered, supervised by local associations and departmental sports committees and accessible to everyone, whatever their level of practice or their mobility and comprehension skills.

Board the Mobil’Bus Sport Santé, cycle to prepare a vitamin smoothie, tackle the obstacle course, among other enriching and sporting experiences to try! Shows, musical strolls, exhibitions and sports readings are also on the program.

1,2,3, swim!

It was a great success in 2023 and in fact, learning to swim via the device “1,2,3, Swim!” » is proposed again this year by the Departmental Council, and even extended!

From July 8 to August 2, 1,000 children aged 4 to 12 who do not have the opportunity to go to the swimming pool will have the chance to learn to swim for free, thanks to a program based on cycles from 8 to 10 sessions, led by qualified professionals, over two consecutive weeks.

Seven cities will host this ambitious program in 2024, and we look forward to seeing you in Amiens (Aquapôle and Le Nautilus), Abbeville (Aqu’Abb), Albert (Caneton), Ham (L’AquariHam), Moreuil (Alméo), Poix -de-Picardie (Aquasoa) and Roye (L’Arobase).

High-level sport meets college students

As part of the Somme 24 strategy, the “Somme 24 club” brings together 21 Samarian athletes practicing various Olympic and Paralympic disciplines.

These ambassadors intervene in the Department’s colleges to explain their career paths, express their passion for sport, supervise sports initiations and thus encourage young people to take their license in the area’s clubs.

Let us add that on the occasion of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, colleges are invited to participate in various actions as part of Olympic week or Olympic days. Let us cite for example the CDOS/USEP Olympic day which will bring together 800 middle school students in Samara on June 19. Find the complete calendar of activities on the website of the Somme Departmental Council.

And you, what sport do you practice?
