Environment Canada says an unseasonably cool air mass has broken minimum temperature records in southern British Columbia.

Temperatures reached 4°C on Sunday in the Trail region of the Kootenays, breaking the record of 4.4°C set in 1954.

In Bella Bella, the minimum temperature of 3.9°C broke the record of 4°C set 10 years ago.

Records for low daily maximum temperatures were also set. In the Kelowna area, the maximum temperature reached only 13.3°C, breaking the record of 15°C from 1906.

Penticton and Princeton also broke records dating back to 1939. Other record low temperatures were seen in Summerland, Sparwood, Nakusp, Merritt and Kamloops.

Lytton also broke a record with just 15.2°C, far from the Canadian heat record of 49.6°C set on June 29, 2021, just one day before a wildfire killed two people and destroyed much of of the village.
