“I am very happy with the trust placed in me by the Jordan Football Federation (JFA). It is a great honor for me and I am here to lead the Nashama even higher and achieve the objectives set out,” he declared from the outset during his presentation ceremony.

“The mission does not look easy, I am aware of that,” he noted, however, expressing his confidence in being able, thanks to his experience and that of his staff, to honor his contract, to carry out the ambitious project started by his predecessor, Houcine Ammouta, and meet the expectations of Jordanian supporters.

Detailing his program, Sellami affirmed that the first objective is to qualify for the final stages of the 2026 World Cup, to envisage under good auspices the final stages of the 2027 Asian Cup of Nations in Saudi Arabia (Jordan does not never participated in the final stages of a World Cup).

“We have a clear vision and a precise program to continue the momentum of the national selection. We have no time to lose and I have complete confidence in the abilities of the players,” he assured.

“The challenge is huge. It is a challenge for me personally, but I have confidence in the group currently in place, which has forced admiration and that everyone now knows and respects after its recent performances,” he said.

“We have to work even harder to be good enough and we are here for just that!”, he concluded.

For her part, the Secretary General of the JFA, Samar Nassar, expressed the support of all components of the Federation for the new coach and his staff, ensuring that all the necessary means will be made available to them, “with the same professionalism and the same determination”, to enable them to achieve the objectives set out, at their head qualifying for the next World Cup.

Nassar said Jamal Sellami has signed a three-year contract that runs until the final stages of the 2027 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia.

Jamal Sellami has been appointed new coach of the Jordanian selection, replacing his compatriot Houcine Ammuta, who announced his departure “for personal reasons”.

Its technical staff is made up of Moroccan executives Omar Najhi and Mustapha El Khalfi, as assistant coaches, as well as goalkeeper coach Ahmed Mohamadina, physical trainers Jawad Sabri and Karim Mellouche and performance analysts Karim El Idrissi and Marouane Lotfi.

Ammouta arrived at the technical helm of the Jordanian selection in July 2023. In less than a year, he made his mark by leading the Nashama to the first final in their history in the Asian Cup of Nations, in Qatar.

He also qualified them hands down for the final stages of the next Asian Cup (AFC-2027) by finishing at the top of their group, as well as for the third and final round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, scheduled for United States, Mexico and Canada.

The draw for this decisive round of Asian qualifying for the 2026 World Cup is scheduled for Thursday in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia. The 18 countries still in the running will be split into three groups of six and the first two in each group will qualify directly for the World Cup, while the best third-placed teams will play a play-off with two places still at stake.

A ninth team will participate in a FIFA play-off tournament to hope to win the ticket to this World Cup, the most inclusive in history with, for the first time, 48 teams in the final stages.
