The Quebec jazz scene is boiling

This year, the festival pays special tribute to the local jazz scene and highlights Quebec artists. It will kick off with a celebration of the 25th anniversary of Effendi, the independent jazz label from Montreal. Spectators will witness a real musical improvisation contest between musicians from Quebec and Montreal.

This electrifying opening will be in the presence of artists such as pianist Vincent Gagnon, the Pierre Côté duo, and many others. The closing of the festival will be just as memorable with veteran Michel Donato. Indeed, the famous double bassist will offer one last moving performance before a well-deserved retirement.

Rising stars of world jazz shine in Quebec

The 6th edition of the festival is also an opportunity to present eminent international talents. Saxophonist Chris Potter and guitarist Julian Lage promise unforgettable evenings on June 26 and 28. Also, the collaboration with the Grand Théâtre de Québec will make it possible to welcome Gabi Hartmann, the new Parisian jazz sensation. His performance, on June 29 in the Octave-Crémazie room, is already shaping up to be a highlight of the festival.

The innovative STUDIOTELUS room will host the Solarium quartet on the evening of Friday June 21. The group, winner of the prestigious emerging prize at the 2023 Rimouski Jazz Festival, is known for its energy reminiscent of the effervescent jazz of the 60s.

Exceptional places for unique musical experiences

Laval University, a long-time partner of the festival, is highlighting three exceptional rooms for this edition. Indeed, the Henri Gagnon room, the Hermes lounge and the LARC recording studio will offer an exceptional listening experience.

Thus, the LARC stage will welcome a selection of remarkable international artists; the Italian violinist Luca Ciarla, the European trio EYM accompanied by the talented Indian singer and flautist Varijashree Venugopal or the Belgian trio Wajdi Riahi.

In addition, the Laurier Jazz Club, a new space within the Château Laurier hotel, also promises a cozy atmosphere, inspired by New York jazz clubs.

Three signature concerts

Furthermore, the Quebec Jazz Festival in June is renowned for its signature concerts. Therefore, the 6th edition does not deviate from this tradition. Studio 29 of the Conservatoire de musique de Québec will be the scene of high-end artistic creations. Simon Denisart, a talented pianist, will join forces with the ESCA quartet to offer a new original jazz work.

Building on its success the previous year, the duo Les Pierre Côté also returns for an exclusive concert at the Laurier Jazz Club on June 25.

Finally, on Saturday June 22 at the Théâtre de la Cité universitaire there will be a vibrant tribute to Frank Sinatra. Presented by singer Alex Blanchette, the evening promises to be rich in emotions.

Free concerts and activities for everyone!

The intersection of Chemin Sainte-Foy and Avenue Marguerite-Bourgeois is transformed for the occasion into a living scene. On the Grande-Allée side, services are expected on the new terrace of the Hôtel Château Laurier.

In addition, Domaine de Maizeret promises memorable open-air concerts, captivating workshops and surprise performances. Among the invited artists, the famous Cape Verdean singer Lucibela, the American group Huntertones and the Belgian collective No Steam.

For a gentle jazz morning, head to the Grand Théâtre for the Croissants-musique series. On the morning of June 30, Blanche Baillargeon will charm spectators with her enchanting world in the Louis-Fréchette room.
