Motorists passing through Montreal will have to deal with new closures due to maintenance work that will be carried out starting Monday on the metropolitan highway.
Highway 40, also known as the Metropolitan Highway, will be blocked at night and on certain weekends in order to replace joints on the highway bridge deck, explained Louis-André Bertrand, spokesperson. of the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility.
“These are maintenance works that were planned and it is an operation that takes a few days each time,” he said in an interview with LCN on Monday.
Mainly planned at night, the obstacles will also have consequences during the day when workers will have to place steel plates over these joints. They will take place between the Décarie interchange and the Laurentides interchange.
The planning of the work will depend a lot on the weather, according to the spokesperson, who mentioned that the drying time of the concrete will be influenced by outside temperatures.
Every day, around 190,000 vehicles travel on the metropolitan highway, including nearly 10% trucks.
“There is really work being done with the trucking industry to ensure that we keep them well informed. Usually the majority of the passage of heavy trucks occurs during the day and at night, this will be done on the service road,” specified Mr. Bertrand.
