With the announcement of the dissolution, French people are called to return to the polls on June 30 and July 7.

But despite these “surprise” legislative elections, voters plan to take part in the vote.

In one week, more than 400,000 powers of attorney were established by the Ministry of the Interior, according to figures from its services.

Despite the start of the holidays, the French plan to vote. While the announcement of early legislative elections, on June 30 and July 7, took everyone by surprise, voters seem to be organizing themselves to ensure that their ballots are taken into account despite All. As proof, the number of proxy requests recorded since June 10, the day after Emmanuel Macron’s announcement of the dissolution of the National Assembly.

6.5 times more proxies compared to 2022

According to figures from the Ministry of the Interior, as of June 16, two weeks before the first round of elections, 409,226 proxies had been validated. “Compared to the legislative elections of 2022, between D-20 and D-14 before the 1st round, there are 6.5 times more proxies”, specifies the ministry services. Important clarification, the date of the 2022 election was known in advance, unlike these early legislative elections.

Already last week, the Ministry of the Interior already noted a strong enthusiasm around these elections and requests for powers of attorney since over the two days following the announcement of the dissolution, 63,143 requests had been validated, compared to 26,533 during the legislative elections of 2022, at the same time. These figures can also be explained by the timetable set for this election. Both towers fall at the start of the summer period, when the French begin to go on vacation.
