Justine Guyot (PS) withdraws her candidacy for the legislative elections in Nièvre and leaves the field open to Christian Paul

There were two socialist candidates for the New Popular Front in the second constituency of Nièvre, there is now only one. Justine Guyot, mayor of Decize, chosen by Nivernais activists, announced this Monday, June 17 that she is withdrawing her candidacy. “The time is not for division but for unity,” she explains. It is therefore Christian Paul, invested by the national office of the PS, who will be the only candidate.

Sunday June 16 at the end of the afternoon, two socialist candidates had officially submitted their candidacy for the prefecture of Nièvre under the label of the New Popular Front in the second constituency: Justine Guyot, mayor of Decize, vice-president of the Council departmental, chosen by Nivernais PS activists; and Christian Paul, mayor of Lormes, former deputy, designated by the national office of the party to which this Nivernais constituency is reserved, according to the agreements signed on the left.

Two candidates and a division which opened an avenue for Julien Guibert, candidate of the National Rally, in this vast constituency encompassing a large rural part of Nièvre, including Morvan, but also Varennes-Vauzelles and Decize. This Monday morning, Justine Guyot finally announced on her Facebook page that she was throwing in the towel.

The choice of national

“Despite the immense support of the Nivernaises and Nivernais whom I warmly thank, I am subject to strong pressure from a small group,” she wrote in a press release. “I cannot resign myself to seeing the National Rally govern France. I therefore withdraw my candidacy in the second constituency of Nièvre, thus taking all my responsibilities. The time is not for division, but for unity .”

The choice of the national office won and it is therefore Christian Paul who will carry the banner of the New Popular Front. Former Secretary of State for Overseas from 2000 to 2002, he has already served four terms as a deputy between 1997 and 2017. He will be facing him, among others, Sandra Germain for Renaissance, former deputy of Patrice Perrot, who is not running for health reasons, and Juilien Guibert, municipal councilor in Clamecy and regional councilor, for the National Rally.
