For 10 years, L'Indépendant has been the only newspaper to publish, on November 11, the list of all the natives of the Pyrénées-Orientales who died in combat during the First World War.
Based on the file on the official “Memory of Men” website, the list unveiled since 2014 by the Independent lists the 6,882 people born in the Pyrénées-Orientales and who fell in combat between 1914 and 1918. A file enriched each year with birth towns.
Among the soldiers who died in 14-18, we note the oldest from the Pyrénées-Orientales: Rose-Marie Costesèque, a civilian victim who died as a result of mistreatment in Belgium on October 28, 1918, a few weeks before the armistice.
You can filter the list by year of birth, by last name (or first name) as well as by city of birth. In this list, you will find some elements but above all the file of each soldier, which you can consult on the Mémoire des Hommes website.
Please note, this file only takes into account soldiers who were born in the territory of the Pyrénées-Orientales and who obtained the mention: “Death for France”.
However, if you notice any omissions or errors, do not hesitate to contact us to let us know.
Like every November 11 for 10 years, L'Indépendant also offers the list of soldiers who died for France during the First World War and who were born in Aude.
