The live interview with Nils Fiechter on the Russia Today television channel lasts almost ten minutes. The president of the Young UDC attacks the peace conference in Ukraine. She “won’t bring anything. This whole story is a very embarrassing charade for our country,” he says in English with a Swiss accent.

He also criticizes the Federal Council for not inviting Russia and warns that the country’s neutrality could be destroyed. According to him, following the summit, Russia will consider Switzerland only as a belligerent state alongside Ukraine. “Our political leaders want to give up our neutrality, our independence and our direct democracy in order to obtain more power for themselves.” He even sees the danger that Switzerland “will be drawn into a third world war”.

Nils Fiechter also spreads fake news during the interview. He claims that China, India, Brazil and Indonesia are absent from the Bürgenstock. China is in fact not present. The three other countries cited, however, sent delegates to Switzerland, according to the official list of participations from the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. Russia Today already spread false information last week that Argentine President Javier Milei would not attend the conference. However, he was very present there.

Gerhard Pfister’s outrage

The staging of the deputy to the Bernese Grand Council is causing a stir on social networks. Even the president of the Center, Gerhard Pfister, noted the incident. On Meanwhile, the elders of his party are struggling with the police. The president of the Young UDC was in fact convicted in 2022 by the Federal Court for racial discrimination.

This was not his first appearance on Russia Today. A few years ago, he had already given information to the channel on the nationality of delinquents after a vote on asylum in the canton of Bern.
