The worst was avoided this Saturday morning on rue Jardon, in the center of Verviers. A fire broke out in the waste present in the entrance hall of number 37. Luckily, the team was already working near the Entracte restaurant, which is on the corner with rue du Manège, and Thomas, the apprentice cook, quickly realized that something was wrong. “The smell had spread to the restaurant”, says Alain Hansenne, the boss. Listening only to his courage, the young man rushed there with a fire extinguisher from the establishment. “He completely extinguished the fire before it spread in the building and thus avoided the tragedy for the 10 households present on site”, he continues. Everyone was able to get out safely.
Arriving on site, firefighters from the Vesdre – Hoëgne & Plateau emergency zone could only note that the fire was well contained. After his heroic act, Thomas returned to provide service. The least we can say is that he showed great composure. “It is piloted by a former soldier, smiles Alain Hansenne. He has been with me for several years now. It’s the same little guy who distributed thousands of meals for victims after the floods.” Hats off to him again for this new act of bravery!
