UEFA announced this Saturday that Spaniard Jesús Gil Manzano would lead the debates between Austria and France on Monday evening (9 p.m.) in Düsseldorf. The 40-year-old referee, who is playing his first Euro, already refereed the Blues a few weeks ago.

It will therefore be a Spaniard on the Austria-France whistle. 48 hours before the Blues enter the Euro in Group D, UEFA announced this Saturday that Jesús Gil Manzano would lead the debates between the Austrians and France on Monday evening (9 p.m.) in Düsseldorf. The 40-year-old referee, who is playing his first Euro, has refereed 22 Champions League matches in his career.

This season, he was notably on the whistle for two PSG matches in the C1 group stage (Dortmund, AC Milan), but also for the Europa League semi-final return between Atalanta and OM. In his career, he left a rather mixed memory with French clubs, since Marseille has a negative record (one victory, three defeats), unlike PSG (two victories, one draw, one defeat) or OL (one victory).

A bad memory in March

Concerning the France team, Jesús Gil Manzano refereed the Blues twice: the first, on September 7, 2019, during a victory against Albania counting for qualifying for Euro 2020 (4-1) . The latest dates back to March 23, during the defeat of Didier Deschamps’ men against Germany in a friendly (0-2) at Groupama Stadium in Lyon. That evening, he handed out three yellow cards, including two for French players (Mbappé, Rabiot).
