Kolda, June 15 (APS) – The commercial customs brigade of Kalifourou (south) seized 108.7 kg of cocaine, worth 8.7 billion CFA francs, following a search carried out on a “national of a Sahel country”, we learned on Saturday from the Senegalese customs communications service.
Customs officers from Kalifourou in the Vélingara department made this seizure on Thursday, following “the targeting of a Jeep Grand Cherokee brand vehicle coming from a neighboring country and driven by an individual from a Sahel country”.
“The thorough search of the said vehicle revealed the presence of a hiding place set up below the rear trunk and carefully concealed under a carpet and a spare tire,” specifies a press release sent to the APS.
The opening of this hiding place made it possible to discover 95 packages of cocaine, for a total weight of 108.7 kg, the total value of the seizure being estimated at “eight billion seven hundred million (8,700,000,000) of CFA francs”.
“The drug seized is certified to be pure cocaine by the National Technical and Scientific Police Laboratory,” we read in this press release.
He adds that Kalifourou customs agents also found “foreign currencies and a large sum of money in CFA francs” on the driver of the vehicle.
He was arrested and investigations for the purposes of the investigation were to shed light on this matter.
