Based in Presles-en-Brie (Seine et Marne) For 3 years, Hélène and Yannick Jehenne are the owners of the multi-award winning bakery “ The Garden of Gourmandises“. Bakers for more than 20 years, they are now at the head of a successful business which has made a name for itself thanks to the quality of their wide variety of products.

“The customer doesn’t have time to get tired”

“We often change what we put in the window, so the customer doesn’t have time to get bored, there is a lot of turnover on pastries, pastries and sandwiches,” they explain.

Rewarded several times for the quality of their products, they can also take advantage of their good results obtained during competitions to make a name for themselves. “ Competitions give us some visibilityparticularly in 2021 with the prize for the best traditional baguette“, says Hélène.

For Yannick, participating in these events is a real way to progress in addition to gaining notoriety. “As soon as we have the opportunity to do it, we go for it. Here, we are reaching the end of the competition season, but as soon as the school year begins, we will start again. For apprentices, it’s a real way to become better,” he argues.

A duty to transmit

The prizes won for the galettes des rois and for the croissants by the apprentices are a real source of pride for Hélène and Yannick. “What’s rewarding about apprentices is that we really feel like we’re serving a purpose. It’s rewarding to say that they are listening to us and that it’s working.”

To train them as best as possible, the owners of the premises give them a lot of freedom and first emphasize quality before speed. “We let them do a lot on their own. For the holidays, for example, we let them each imagine and make a cake. We first want the work to be done well before it is done quickly,” concludes Yannick.
