A woman in her fifties was the victim of an assassination attempt on Tuesday June 11, 2024 in the morning, in Hergnies (North). According to information from The voice of the North her former partner allegedly broke into the caravan where she lives, insulted her and shot her.
“We heard five shots and a lot of screaming. The lady was screaming so loud that we thought she was dying! », a witness told our colleagues on the day of the tragedy. Emergency services were alerted and arrived a few minutes later to take care of the victim, who suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh. A man, hit in the arm, was also taken to hospital. Luckily, despite their injuries, they are out of danger.
The shooter actively sought
The shooter then fled in a vehicle, an MPV. The man, who belongs to the Traveler community, has since been actively sought by the gendarmes who have opened an investigation into attempted murder. As of Wednesday evening, the day after the incident, he had still not been located.
This attempted feminicide occurred around ten days after the death of a 41-year-old woman in the North, in Bruay-sur-l’Escaut. The victim was shot and killed at home, in the presence of her children, aged 9, 13 and 18. Her partner, with whom she had been for 14 years, admitted the facts.
