A vestige of another time, the Kuom wasteland has been abandoned for several years. The CCLVD has just launched a study to consider the use of this land.
Since the RD1016, you can't miss it. The Kuom wasteland, named after this company which was the leader in furniture in France in the last century, has been abandoned for several years. Plagued by squatting and looting, this building has seen better days.
Shining a new light on the Kuom wasteland
But its revival is perhaps for tomorrow, in any case that is what the community of communes of Liancourtois Vallée Dorée (CCLVD) is hoping for, which has just launched a consultation around this area.
“There is already a rehabilitation of the two towers by a private owner. The idea, from the CCLVD side, is linked to the economic development competence of the territory. We would like to launch a study to see what is possible to do, set guidelines, see what is feasible and their costs.explains Olivier Ferreira, president of the community. Whatever happens, we cannot allow this fallow situation to continue. We must ask ourselves the right questions to prevent this wasteland from being abandoned.”
This consultation will essentially serve to determine the directions that the rehabilitation of this area located in the commune of Cauffry will take. “We must ask ourselves the question of future. Either we renature or use the buildings if they are viable, which would surprise me. Today, we are in a logic of consuming less land, it is better to build where there was building before”continues the mayor of Bailleval who is also aware that the question of access to the wasteland must be asked.
Because although close to this essential road axis that is the RD1016, the Kuom wasteland does not have direct access. “Depending on what we install there, we will have to study traffic constraints without overloading current traffic.”
The question of land for the wasteland
Furthermore, the president of the CCLVD leaves the door open to all possibilities: “We could imagine a mix with housing – supported by Cauffry, a social landlord or a private one and alongside – the economy supported by the CCLVD. We could even have a private porter for the whole thing. This is not what I like the most because I think that the community must control the land and I want to avoid land retention.”
During the community council of October 14, 2024, this first step was presented to elected officials. Despite three abstentions, the deliberation was voted on. One more step taken in the future of the Kuom wasteland. Now the time is under review. “I hope that this program will not last more than a short year”, Olivier Ferreira concludes.
