Siemens Canada plant will be modernized

INVESTMENT. Siemens Canada announced Thursday an investment of approximately $14 million to modernize its Drummondville manufacturing plant on several levels. It could be a new building that would be built next to the factory premises by 2027, but the company has not not revealed more details.

The goal will be to optimize overall plant efficiency and capacity by increasing production of certain products. It is expected that the production of control panels will increase by 50%. “This transformation will allow us to increase our presence, position ourselves to serve a growing market and continue to supply the Canadian market with high-quality products,” says Siemens Canada CEO Faisal Kazi.

The plan also calls for improved manufacturing processes, including increased automation and a new layout of shop floor machines to improve the flow of materials. Already having some 350 employees, Mr. Saint-Yves assures that automation will not replace any existing positions.

On the contrary, he promises that there will be new positions to fill. “By 2027, the factory modernization project will allow an increase in the number of jobs of up to 15%. Assembly positions for control panels and prefabrication will need to be filled,” he declares.

Mr. Kazi believes that the Drummondville plant will play a future role in the electrification of Canada. He hopes to position it to become a staple for their other factories across the country. “We plan to increase digitalization and thereby productivity significantly. The factory could therefore be a point of reference for others who will see how things can evolve,” he explains.

The factory, which has been established in Drummondville for more than 50 years, manufactures electrical products for the Canadian market. Mayor Stéphanie Lacoste thanked the factory’s contribution to the economic growth of the municipality over the past five decades. “These new investments help ensure the sustainability of our growth as a development capital,” she underlines.
