Start of the week, seventeen people have been arrested then placed in police custody by the sub-directorate for the fight against irregular immigration and the Regional Transport Security, learned Paris news with the Paris public prosecutor’s office, confirming information from Parisian. They are suspected of belonging to a criminal network which was rampant in the Paris metro.

Tourists targeted

A judicial investigation was opened by the “Parisian organized delinquency” section of the court. The investigations concern multiple acts committed in the Metroincluding: “organized gang thefts”, “organized gang scams” ​​and “criminal conspiracy with a view to committing a crime (that of organized gang thefts)”.

Their privileged victims: tourists. According to the prosecution, the language barrier and lack of knowledge of procedures make them easy targets since they do not necessarily have the reflex to file a complaint or call for help.

Of the seventeen people arrested, nine were presented to an investigating magistrate this Thursday, June 13, 2024 with a view to indictment. The investigating judge did not follow the prosecution’s requests and did not request pre-trial detention.

THE eight other people are still in jail.
