Star of David tags, drawn with yellow spray, were found on several blockhouses on the beach of Saint-Martin-de-Varreville. The mayor explains that the tags appeared after the D-Day celebrations.

Tags representing stars of David, drawn with yellow spray, were found on several blockhouses on the beach of Saint-Martin-de-Varreville, in Manche, BFM Normandie learned from the mayor of the town. Eight tags in total, probably traced on June 9, were found by walkers.

The mayor, Ghyslène Lebarbenchon explains that these tags appeared at a time when a crowd of several thousand people was present in the town for the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

A complaint filed

These blockhouses are protected as historical heritage. The mayor of the town filed a complaint with the gendarmerie on the afternoon of June 13. She invites residents who have seen the authors of the tags to contact the gendarmerie.

“As the municipal employee is on leave after the crazy week of ceremonies around the landing, he will carry out the cleaning next week,” specifies the mayor on Facebook.

This is not the first time that tags have damaged the town’s blockhouses. During the 75th anniversary of D-Day, tags had already covered the German inscriptions from 1944 inside a blockhouse.
