Firefighters, border services officers, parliamentary protection officers and search and rescue technicians employed by the federal government will be able to retire after 25 years of service without reduction in their pension.
Correctional services officials, paramedical staff and firefighters who work for the three territorial governments are also affected by this planned reform of the Public Service Superannuation Act.

The Public Service Pension Advisory Committee recommended this measure on behalf of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), as front-line employees of Correctional Services Canada are already entitled to it.
Members of the Canadian Armed Forces and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police also benefit from similar provisions
