Senegalese Mamadou Diop, president of DSEC, announced an ambitious project: the creation of a BMW car manufacturing plant in Thiès, at an estimated cost of 25 billion FCFA. This factory, the first of its kind in West Africa, aims to strengthen the local automobile industry and create around 5,000 direct and indirect jobs. Mamadou Diop stressed that this project is part of a broader vision of economic and industrial development for Senegal, attracting international investors and stimulating technological innovation in the region.

The factory is expected to begin operations in 2025, with an annual production capacity of 10,000 vehicles. Diop stressed the importance of this initiative to reduce dependence on vehicle imports, promote professional training and develop local skills in the automotive sector. In addition, this project is expected to foster partnerships with universities and research institutes to encourage innovation and research in the automotive field.

The project benefits from the support of the Senegalese government, which sees this initiative as a lever to achieve the objectives of the Plan Sénégal Émergent (PSE). The Minister of Industry expressed optimism about the economic impact of this factory, hoping that it will attract more foreign investment and position Senegal as a regional hub for the automobile industry.
