The rumor had been spreading since yesterday already.

It’s now official: the Ironman 70.3 Les Sables-d’Olonne Vendée, which was to take place on Sunday June 30 in Les Sables-d’Olonne, is brought forward to Saturday June 29.

The reason ? The holding of the first round of legislative elections throughout France, on the same day, following the announcement by President Emmanuel Macron, Sunday June 2, of the dissolution of the National Assembly.

Obstruction at the polls

With a half-marathon in the heart of the capital of the coast of lights, and a 90 km cycling event spanning in 15 municipalitiesmany roads in the area would be closed to traffic for several hours, time to allow the athletes to pass safely.

And in fact, prevent certain voters from being able to go to the polls. However, the law is clear: it is strictly prohibited to obstruct access to the polling station during an election.

A situation as unprecedented as it is unforeseen, which, a few weeks before the start of the race, disrupts several months of preparations. “The prince has decided, so now we must obey,” enrage the triathletes.
