A long-term investigation carried out by the gendarmes of the Thouars brigade community, with the support of the Bressuire research brigade, came to fruition on Thursday June 6. At dawn, a legal operation under the direction of the Niort public prosecutor’s office was carried out in Saint-Léger-de-Montbrun, in order to dismantle a local family network of used vehicle sales with questionable methods indicate the police.
It is a question of scams, forgeries and uses of forgeries or even the modification of odometers, all of which is carried out by freeing yourself from legal administrative procedures .

23 scams

In total, 23 scams linked to used vehicle sales were demonstrated by the seizure of various objects (transcoding equipment, OBD terminal, false company stamps, etc.) or documents presumed to be falsified. These scams are accompanied by forgeries and uses of forgeries (false technical inspection, false non-existent garage invoice, false identity, etc.), the execution of concealed work, receiving stolen goods and other non-keeping of the register by a reseller.

Eight vehicles seized

Investigators thus seized eight vehicles, for a value of €86,000 and €6,650 in cash as criminal assets. Eight people, four of whom were placed in police custody, will have to appear before the Niort Judicial Court on December 12.

Significant resources were deployed for this operation. The gendarmes of northern Deux-Sèvres received support from their colleagues from Parthenay and Niort, a dog team, a URSSAF investigator, two interpreters, the Departmental Intelligence and Judicial Investigation Brigade, the Criminal Identification Unit and the Regional Criminal Assets Unit.
