Cantal. Closure of the Jordanne, end of double sectorization: college news

During the June and December 2023 sessions of the Departmental Council, a certain number of measures relating to the new sectorization of colleges Cantal public authorities have been taken with implementation from September 2025.

Reduced workforce announced

Among these measures is “the desire to maintain a balanced territorial network of our establishments, while ensuring the optimization of spaces and their sharing with other communities. It is in this spirit that the reflection on the revision of the sectors was initiated with the desire to strengthen rural colleges thanks in particular to the elimination of double sectorizations, which is also a wish of National Education” indicates Bruno Faurepresident of the Department.

And to put forward certain figures: “the forecasts announce a drop of 900 students by 2023 and 400 in the Aurillac basin”.

Closure of the Jordanne at Aurillac

Also included in these principles is the closure of the Collège la Jordanne d'Aurillacwhich is shifted by one year. It must close in 2029, and the entry of the last 6th grades will take place in 2026. “We must ensure the involvement of National Education, but I share one concern with you: it has decided to resort to the recruitment of part-time teachers” underlined Vincent Descoeur, departmental advisor and deputy.

“They are contract teachers and not part-time teachers” retorted Valerie Ruedaopposition departmental councilor, indicating that he “participated in the last board of directors of the college”.

Among these news items is the desire of the commune of Sansac-de-Marmiesse and the parents of students to now send their children to the Collège de Saint-Mamet rather than at the Collège La Ponétie in Aurillac.

Sectorization decisions

September 2025: Ayrens and Saint-Paul-des-Landes divided into the Laroquebrou college.

Carlat and Yolet sectorized at the Vic-sur-Cère college.

Prunet and Teissières-les-Boulies sectored at Montsalvy college.

Alleuze is entirely sectorized at La Vigière college in Saint-Flour.

Cussac and Paulhac sectorized at the Pierrefort college. Celoux, Chazelles, Lastic, Rageade, Soulages and Vieillespesse sectorized at the Massiac college.

Sansac-de-Marmiesse sectorized at the Saint-Mamet college.

September 2026: Jussac, Marmanhac and Laroquevieille sectorized at the Saint-Cernin college.
