Get dolled up locally with Quebec cosmetics brands

If you can dress locally in Quebec, you can also take care of yourself with locally made skincare products. Here are five brands to discover. They have in common, in particular, that they are all eco-responsible and come from female entrepreneurship.

Firecrackers

Catherine Therriault was only 22 years old when she created Les Pétards. More than ten years later, the brand still produces artisanally, in accordance with the initial wishes of its founder. The company based in the Eastern Townships has created its body and hair care products using ingredients from Canadian territory, such as kelp algae from Gaspésie. Les Pétards does not have its own store, but the products are quite widely distributed in the province, notably in Rachelle Béry stores.

Weeds

Fans of DIY cosmetics certainly already know Weeds, formerly known for their blog Les Trappeuses, for their wide selection of natural ingredients and medicinal plants. The brand has been expanding its offering for some time with body care products made in their workshop. The team remains faithful to the company’s original eco-responsible values, with certain ingredients from Quebec, such as conifers, oats or thuja. The packaging is durable, and the products are also available in bulk at the store.

Cocooning Love

This brand has been manufacturing vegan and natural products for the face, body and hair in Montreal since 2016. It, too, seeks to integrate local ingredients into its compositions, such as white birch or cranberry. It could already be found in various boutiques across the province, but the brand opened its own café-boutique on the Plateau Mont-Royal this winter: the Cocooning Café. The place offers, in particular, a selection of artistic workshops and astrological reading.

BKind

Often cited as an example among Quebec entrepreneurial successes, the BKind brand is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. It offers body and hair products, as well as nail polishes and some high-end household products. BKind is, in particular, known for its shampoo bars. They are also available in bulk at the store and at certain resellers, just like many of the brand’s products.

All products are vegan and not tested on animals, but the brand takes its commitment even further, because it donates 2% of the revenue generated by its sales to a wildlife refuge.

Liliblanc Artisan

Sylvie and Nadia Godbout, two sisters passionate about natural care, founded their eco-responsible brand in 2017. Since then, they have been making treatments for the face, body and hair in their workshop in Saint-Jérôme, in the Laurentians. Liliblanc focuses on local products, including beer from the emblematic brewery Good Lord ! with whom the brand has designed a range of shampoos.
