The real fiasco that this operation by the Montreal Fire Department (SIM) caused in the city center during the Grand Prix weekend would raise a broader problem between the city administration and its merchants, according to a representative of the metropolitan business community.

During a meeting that brought together all stakeholders from the business world in Montreal, Monday afternoon, “many said that it takes a change in organizational culture,” says the CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal. , Michel Leblanc.

“Those who know the private sector, we often say to ourselves: ‘an organizational culture is the key,’” said Mr. Leblanc in an interview on LCN on Monday evening. However, we have the impression that in city services, we do not understand merchants and restaurateurs.”

“At the end of the week, the restaurateurs looked like criminals,” he adds. But these people want to innovate, want to serve the customer, want Montreal to shine. They want us to party safely, so that’s why the message today to the City is: “don’t take it as an isolated case, take it as a case of culture organizational.”

According to Mr. Leblanc, the city administration should appoint “an accountable person” to prevent this type of situation from happening again.

“It gave the impression at the end of the week that no one knew anything and we blamed everything on a fire department or a security service, but it takes someone who is accountable in these situations,” mentions the guest.
