At the Moselle Open, there is more than just tennis. Moselle Attractiveness organized on Wednesday November 6, 2024, a conference on energy in Moselleits challenges and its future. Press, political actors and the economic world came together to look at the energy of tomorrow.
L’white hydrogen was at the heart of the discussions, because the Moselle could potentially shelter the largest natural hydrogen deposit in the world with an underground tank that could hold up to 46 million tonnes.
White hydrogen is distinguished from green hydrogen by its natural origin: it is not produced by man, but comes from a natural phenomenon. To simplify, this clean energy is generated by a contact between water and iron-rich rocks. Once captured, it has the advantage of being immediately usable.
The first data suggest an abundant resource in Moselle thanks to catchments carried out in Folschviller. Julien MOULIN, CEO of Française de l'Énergie, pioneer in the field, aims to startexploitation in the East of the Moselle by 2027.

The Française de l'Énergie capture project is also attracting interest abroad, notably in Japan and the United States, as evidenced by an article in the New York Times on the Moselle project.
White hydrogen driving the industry of tomorrow in Moselle?
Coal gas, white hydrogen, photovoltaics: for Patrick WEITEN, president of the Moselle department, the initiatives which are multiplying in the territory are all promises for a future revival of local industry.
In addition to the Française de l'Énergie white hydrogen project, the GazelEnergie group is installing a hydrogen production unit by water electrolysis on the site of the Émile-Huchet power plant in Saint-Avold, while the installation of the Holosolis solar panel factory is on track.
