The 82km, the flagship event!
This 82 km is the queen distance of the Veni vici. “The most beautiful and varied. Which is being improved by 10 km in order to offer great new features. We will be entitled to a complete ascent of the Roman aqueduct (in the direction of the water) which supplied Nîmes more than 2000 years ago, starting from the Fontaine d'Eure in Uzès. If runners were among us in 2023, prepare to lose all your bearings, it will never go up and down in the same places“, announces the organization.
The start will be given at 8 a.m.00at the foot of the superb Medieval Duchy of Uzès. The runners will immediately be immersed in the atmosphere of the Roman aqueduct in the Eure valley where it had its source, before an unprecedented climb into the surrounding hills, then the race will head towards the villages of Saint Maximin andArgilliers.
After a few convolutions in the hills, the runners will pass through the Vers stone quarries where the stones used in the construction of the Pont du Gard were extracted. Then it will be a festival of Romanness after the typical village of Vers-Pont du Gard, with a series of remains of the arches of the aqueduct, up to the Pont du Gard which you will tread 2000 years after the Roman soldiers. Thrill guaranteed, with a refreshment.
This will be followed by St-Bonnet-du-Gard, the site of astonishing underground tunnels of Sernhac, the castles of Lédenon or even Cabrières… Finally, the Mas d’Escattes,The finish towards Nemausus will be “playful and a bit of a nuisance”. Then the Tour Magne, before sliding down the slope of the green Jardins de la Fontaine, passing at the foot of the Maison Carrée, until the final sprint in the thousand-year-old Arena of Roman Nîmes, the final passage of this great route.
