Young people will do like the adults in Cahors! – Medialot

450 middle school students will participate from June 17 to 19, 2024.

As the Paris Olympics approach, the National Union of School Sports (UNSS) and the Lot Department are organizing a sporting event in Cahors with 24 teams and nearly 450 middle school students from all over the Lot (junior and junior level). ).

Serge Rigal, president of the Department, and Christophe Proença, vice-president of the Department in charge of attractiveness, tourism and sport, presented these Olympic Games like no other on June 7 alongside Lionel Veysseyre, director of the UNSS du Lot, and Pierre Delpeyroux, president of the Lot Departmental Olympic and Sports Committee. “The objective is for our youth from Lot to be able to flourish and participate in the Olympics in a certain way. It’s a beautiful symbol,” underlined the president of the Departmental Council.

On the program: three days of sports competitions, from June 17 to 19, 2024, on the Cahors sports facilities: at the Lucien Desprats stadium, at the Cabessut gymnasium, at the Divonéo swimming pool, and at the Pierre Ilbert stadium.

Athletics, football, rugby, 3×3 basketball, handball, pentathlon, badminton, laser run and, finally, a 2024 m team relay are on the program of events.

On the logistics side, the Clément-Marot high school, the Monnerville school campus and the Gambetta college will serve meals to the athletes at lunchtime. The teams will be accommodated at Mas de Saboth in Vers where, every evening, a medal ceremony will take place.

The Lot Department devotes 54,000 euros to the organization of this event.

The Olympics oblige, it is an opening ceremony which will give the start of these three days, on Monday June 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The 24 teams will leave the Lucien-Desprats stadium around 11 a.m., heading towards the city center of Cahors: they will take the Quai de la Verrerie, the Cabessut bridge, the rue du Château du Roi to get to Place Bessières where The opening ceremony will be held from 11:30 a.m.

On the program for the opening ceremony which will take place in the presence of officials (State, Department, City of Cahors, CDOS, UNSS):

– dance (by students from the Saint-Etienne – Cahors School Ensemble),

– a flash mob with all establishments,

– the Marseillaise sung by the choir of the Olivier-de-Magny college – Cahors,

– the presentation of the Olympic oath,

– and the arrival of the Olympic flame.

Departing from the prefecture, a torch relay, carried by students, will go up Boulevard Gambetta to Place Bessières where a cauldron will be lit to launch the college Olympics.

The closing ceremony will take place on Wednesday June 19 at 3:30 p.m., at the Lucien Desprats stadium with the presentation of the team trophies followed by a snack
