Red and white. It is perhaps no coincidence that the CGT has the same colors as Santa Claus. Still, for the second year in a row, the CGT des Hautes-Alpes, in partnership with Secours populaire, is committed to a great solidarity initiative: the “Christmas in my box” operation. “This operation aims to allow employees to donate their second-hand toys without having to leave their company, thus increasing the number of donations and the scope of our action. In a context where for some, Christmas is not a celebration, this collection takes on particular importance. It offers a valuable opportunity to help families in difficulty, for whom the end-of-year celebrations can be a source of stress rather than joy,” explains the CGT in a press release.
Alexandra Pourroy, joint general secretary of the CGT federation of Hautes-Alpes, recalls how the idea came about. “We had contact with people from Secours populaire and we said to ourselves, why not do something concrete to help them on this subject of Christmas. We therefore set up collection points in the companies in which we are established and the first collection worked well.” In this case, between 300 and 400 toys, enough to fill a utility vehicle, were collected from the operation's partner companies, given to Secours populaire and then redistributed to children.

“In the companies that participate, we either set up collection points in our union premises, or, if the company accepts, in places where people pass through, such as near the coffee machines for example. The advantage for people who want to donate is that they do not have to travel to Secours populaire. We centralize collections and then transport. For this edition, we hope to do as well as last year. […] This dynamic demonstrates our commitment to being an actor of solidarity, not only in words but also in deeds as will be the case at Orange, Enedis or Chicas de Gap for example. We invite all employees to participate in this initiative by donating new toys or toys in good condition. Together, let’s make Christmas a celebration for all children, bringing a little joy and hope to homes that need it.”
The collection began on November 4 and will continue until November 29.
