The air base 113 “Saint-Exupéry”located in Saint-Dizier in Haute-, is much more than a simple military infrastructure. L'Est Républicain reports that by welcoming a fleet of fighter planes, notably the famous Rafale, it is one of the pillars of National Defense. But its benefits do not stop there, according to an INSEE study, the air base has a real economic influence, and the Meuse, neighboring Haute-Marne, also benefits from the economic activity generated by the base.

The Meuse, cradle of new opportunities

With 2,000 people (1,932 military personnel and 92 civilians), numerous subcontractors, service providers and specialized companies have settled nearby. This dynamic attracts investors, generates jobs and gives a boost to the transport, hotel and catering sectors in the Meuse. The base exerts economic influence over more than 3,800 people in the Meuse.

The jobs created by the air base go beyond departmental borders. Of many Meusiens work on the sitewhile the technical and military training offered attracts young local talents.

The base thus indirectly participates in the increase in skills of Meuse workers, who bring their know-how to various sectors.
