Having left through the door, he tries to go back through the window. In Hérault, the promoter of a contested golf course has submitted a new authorization request. Problem: this project was canceled in 2023 by the prefecture, due to a water shortage.

The authorities then issued an unfavorable opinion on this vast luxury real estate operation in the town of Montagnac, which included the construction of several hundred villas and an 18-hole golf course. The authorities justified their decision by mentioning « the context of early drought ».

Not enough to discourage the project leader – Domaine de Lavagnac – who therefore submitted a new application. Main novelty, the 18-hole golf course should be « fully watered via rainwater and reuse of treated wastewater ». Except that this solution is strongly contested by environmentalists.

The prefecture still opposed

According to the regional mission of the Environmental Authority, requested by the prefecture to give an opinion on the environmental consequences, this new project is very poorly implemented. « The impact study cannot be considered formally complete »write the experts, pointing out numerous inconsistencies and gaps, particularly on « analysis of the project's vulnerability to climate change ».

As for the Hérault prefecture, requested by Reporterreshe has not changed her mind about this golf course: « In view of the tensions experienced by the Hérault department in terms of water, the State's position has not changed, it is still just as unfavorable. »
